Finding yourself diving deep into your Recordings data to share and analyze insights? If so, we’ve got something new for you. 👇🔎
You can now bulk export lists of Recordings with all their metadata to CSV or XLSX files. Import this data to your spreadsheet apps for easier analysis, collaboration, and sharing.
Crunching your recordings data in a sheet makes for easier organization and analysis. You might want to perform some advanced filtering, cross-reference recordings with session data from other tools like Google Analytics, or build pivot tables from your Recordings insights.
Exports of your Hotjar recordings data add visibility to more aspects than you can see on your Recordings dashboard. Opening up a sheet with your Recordings metadata, you’ll see:
Recordings data exports provide you easily shareable lists, so you can share relevant Recordings with your team. Just batch up and download useful Recordings you’ve filtered or tagged, or even the whole list of Recordings from your Saved Segments.

We’ve got an exciting launch to share with you - You can now target users when collecting feedback in Hotjar by attributes of your choice such as amount spent, user ID, or country. This feature is called User Attributes, and is ready to use via our brand new Identify API.
User Attributes is available on Hotjar Business plans.
Here’s just a couple of ways you can now use User Attributes in Polls and Incoming Feedback.
User Attributes can make your product page Polls a lot more specific: maybe you’d show the Poll only to customers who did not make a purchase, who arrived through your Facebook ad, and who are in the United Kingdom.
With User Attributes you can now specify to who you show your Incoming Feedback widgets. Want to get website feedback from your high value customers? In your setup you could for example target users with total spend over $100 and who have made a purchase in the last 30 days.
Targeting in feedback is just the first step - next we’re rolling out User Attributes to Recordings starting early 2020, where you’ll be able to store and filter by attributes like size of spend to see Recordings broken down by customer spend.
To use User Attributes you’ll need to be on a Hotjar Business plan, and make use of our new Identify API. Whether you’re new to APIs or experienced in setting them up, we’ve got you covered. Head over to our docs where we’ve included a 4-step setup guide.
With the launch of Identify API and new User Attributes functionality, we’re putting the power in your hands to be able to work with the data that matters most to your business. To use the Identify API you’ll need to sign a Data Processing Agreement with us, and it’s important for you as the data controller on Hotjar to understand your responsibilities when processing personal data on Hotjar. On our side, we’ll continue to provide the measures and tools you need to work with behavior analytics safely, and with respect for users’ privacy. Hotjar's Recordings are one of the best tools in your UX toolbox when you want to see how people really navigate through your website and collect the insight you need to fix the user experience and improve conversions.
You can sit in front of hours of recordings and insights might ‘pop out’ at you, but you will get way more out of them if you plan your work on them smartly and now, with these new filters, use quicker ways of narrowing down your list of Recordings to watch.
So what do these new filters do?
Let’s look at each of these in a bit more detail:
Understand your visitors’ experiences depending on where they’ve come from. For example, maybe you want to look at just those visitors who’ve come from a particular ad campaign, in order to understand their behavior better—and, now you can.
Users’ repeated clicks might point you towards confusing or potentially broken elements on your website. Now you can filter your Recordings by Rage Clicks to reveal usability improvements.
A U-turn is where your user turns back on themselves before taking a key action like completing a purchase, perhaps signaling uncertainty. Improve conversion rates by zooming into Recordings where U-turns have occurred and spot potential UX issues.
These new filters were heavily requested by Hotjar users, and so for us it's great to be able to put them in your hands and hear what you think. Keep the feedback coming so we can make Hotjar better for you :)
More exciting news is on the way soon. We're working on new and better ways for you to enrich your understanding of your user behavior and their feedback. Keep an eye on our Product Roadmap!Read More
Hotjar Recordings just got a big time-saving update! Advanced filters and the ability to save sets of filters as segments for frequent use will help you find relevant recordings in record time.
You can now combine multiple page-visited and tag filters to narrow down your recordings list. This allows you to filter recordings of a specific journey on your site, that you would like to optimize.
You can now filter visitors that did not visit a particular page, or did not perform a certain action/event. This allows you to see where visitors are not achieving your conversion goals and why.
You can now save sets of recordings filters as segments for regular use. This allows you and your team to have easy access to your most relevant recordings.

These were all popular feature requests and we’d love to hear what you think. Please keep the feedback coming so we can continue to make Hotjar better for you.Read More
You can now install the Hotjar tracking code on your WordPress website from the newly released, official Hotjar plugin for WordPress.
Get started with Hotjar without requiring a web developer to add the Hotjar tracking code to your WordPress site. All you need to do is install the Hotjar WordPress plugin, copy over your site id from the Hotjar admin and start setting up your Heatmaps, Recordings, Incoming Feedback and all other Hotjar tools for your site.
Although there were a number of similar plugins already available for WordPress, none of them were supported by us. We decided to build our own official plugin, which we could readily support, to provide the most reliable experience to our users.
Hotjar’s WordPress plugin is simple and lightweight, but it unlocks the power of our entire suite of user behavior and feedback tools. If you need some quick ideas on how to get started, check out this quick guide to using Hotjar on WordPress to improve your website UX.

You can now create three new question types in Hotjar Polls and Surveys allowing you to collect better feedback and follow up with your visitors.
You can now use 5-point and 7-point rating scale questions in both Hotjar Polls and Surveys. These are known as ‘Likert scales’ and allow you to measure your users’ attitudes towards a question or statement.
You can now ask your users for their email address and validate that it’s a correct email. This makes it easy to follow up with more questions, schedule a call or interview, or just get in touch when you’re incentivising feedback with prizes.
Forced binary questions are a great way to build up commitment in a survey or poll. While radio button questions were already possible in Hotjar, we received requests to have a quick shortcut to create a Yes / No binary question.
It’s a very easy step for your visitor to take and in Polls it makes for a great opportunity to ask a segmented follow-up question.
In Hotjar Polls you can easily ask follow up questions by using question logic.
These features were brought to you by everyone who gave us feedback. Keep the suggestions coming, we're here to make Hotjar more valuable for you.
