Back in November, user interviews came to Hotjar with the launch of Engage.
Engage was built to take the hassle out of the user research process. It automates the admin—from recruitment, screening, and scheduling, to hosting, recording, and transcribing user interviews.
With less busywork, you have more time to focus on the important part—connecting with your users, understanding their needs, and designing great experiences.
We didn’t get everything right though, and we’ve been listening closely to your feedback.
Today, with that feedback in mind, we’re happy to announce some changes to how Engage subscriptions work.
TL;DR: you’ll get more value for less money. And one subscription will now cover all your research needs.
Here’s what’s new for Engage:
All this means that the cost per interview is now much lower than before. So you can talk to more users, for less.
Many of you said having a credit system and a subscription was a pain (and you were right):
“Having a pool of 175k+ users to recruit interview participants from is great, but it’s annoying that I have to buy pre-paid credits for those interviews and then sign up to a separate subscription when I want to interview my own users.”
Plus, the researchers getting the most value from Engage are using it for continuous discovery. You’re regularly checking in with users, testing designs, and getting feedback. So it made sense to include a regular interview allowance in your subscription.
We also added custom compensation as we heard that some of your ideal users simply wouldn’t get out of bed and into an interview for $15:
“The fixed compensation amount is fine for some users, but it’s just not enough of an incentive when I want to speak to users who place a higher value on their time.”
Thanks for all your feedback so far. And rest assured, we’re working on more improvements to Engage’s functionality and experience.
If you’re not already using Engage, you can get started with our Basic plan for free.
